Zarhym shares Mists of Pandaria midnight activation details

Did you preorder a digital Mists of Pandaria copy and are wondering how the transition will work from Cataclysm to the brand new expansion? Well, Zarhym from Blizzard has the low down on this. I was very weary about this as last expansion launch was awful with waits of up to a few hours before some people could login! (varied on strength of connection, Scandinavia generally getting in quicker due to fast internet back then)

[bluequote] Zarhym – Mists of Pandaria Midnight Activation Details [/bluequote]

[bluequote]The time is nearly upon us as the mists begin to part and a new age of discovery amidst turmoil begins! For those of you prepared to begin your adventures the moment Mists of Pandaria is launched in your region, we’ve put together some important details that should get your expedition underway.

As soon as we activate the new expansion content on launch, players who already have a Mists of Pandaria license with the data installed will gain instant access. If you’re in the game when the clock strikes midnight, you don’t even have to logout!

So, what happens at midnight for those of us with Mists ready to go?

- A yellow System Message will appear in your Chat Log telling you to visit Orgrimmar or Stormwind to start your travels.

- Level-85 characters will receive a new quest, no matter where they are in the world, which will guide them to Varian or Garrosh for further orders.

- If you’re online at midnight you will receive the quest even if your Quest Log is full — or you can visit Varian or Garrosh to get started on your journey to Pandaria.

- Level-85 players will notice their experience bars automatically change so that experience can once again be earned.

- Players who are at the Character Creation screen at midnight will notice the button to create a pandaren character will be enabled. (Reminder: This also applies to players who don’t have a Mists of Pandaria license, as all races are now included with a base copy of World of Warcraft.)

- Players who are at the Character Creation screen at midnight will notice the button to create a monk character will be enabled.

We’ve been very hard at work on this new technology with the goal of ensuring that players can enjoy a more stable and seamless transition into the next expansion than ever before. Our staff will be monitoring realm stability and gameplay issues around the clock, as we want to provide you with the best experience possible.

We’ll see you on Pandaria![/bluequote]

Sounds like it’ll be smoother than cataclysms launch.

Best Buy Developer Q&A

If you didn’t know the Blizzard developers are taking LIVE questions over at Best Buys Site

However I’ve been pretty disappointed at the lack of PvP questions being answered – It seems like a glorified tea-party to me. Here’s some of the questions that got answered:

Awesome to hear Corystockton!

Blimey, I’m so disappointed to hear that Cory – I honestly was planning to take up pet battles instead of arena.

Well… it’s also not fun to never get arena queue pops..

Ghostcrawler wants to talk to all of us!

I wonder if he’ll answer mine? I tried to make it mainstream but niched at the same time! There was one decent PvP and PvE related question answered though.

At least with that change we’ll get shorter seasons al though we might still be stuck with arena queues that take as long as flying to the moon and back.

Now, get ready for the mother load of all questions… *drum roll please*

PHEW! thank god there won’t be mailboxes.. I mean the potential game breaking possibilities of mail boxes existing on the wandering isles would be devastating.

My question wasn’t answered unfortunately al though I tried to keep it mainstream enough for any dev to understand “Do you plan to keep the arena seasons competitive by making the arena queue times quicker, say for cross-battleground queues and to stop the match making rating from inflating right at the start of the season and then declining throughout? What will give MoP arena longevity in terms of a competitive environment?”

Well that just about wraps up the highlights of the Best Buy Developer Q&A – amusing yet dissapointing.

Bugs and stuff with Jimos (new video tomorrow)

Been recording some MoP beta lately with Jimos but it’s terribly buggy… Thought I’d go over some of the abilities/talents that I missed and leave you with some of the bugs we encountered (the video will be up tomorrow btw)

Current state of Hunters in MoP (Mists of Pandaria)

Just a quick post to address some things that need to be tweaked in beta right now for Hunters and what I think of them so far.

After testing the class a bit in duels it seems to be designed very well by blizzard even though it’s early beta right now; the fact that every spec can have Silencing Shot & Readiness strengthens the class as a whole.

What this does is it basically makes Survival better than Marksmanship by default – who wouldn’t pick a purely magic damage specialization that comes with the best of Cataclysm/WotLK Marksmanship tree (Silence shot and Readiness) and the ever important entrapment passive bonus that ONLY Survival gets. Beast Mastery with the Kill Command change to 25 yard range also removes the clunkyness of the ability and Readiness also resets the cooldown of Beastial Wrath now – I predict that Survival will be competing with Beast Mastery in terms of PvP viability.

As for Marksmanship, what’s left of it? There’s no selling point; rumour has it blizzard wants to make Marksmanship redundant in MoP as it’s been the main spec for the entire lifespan of Hunters in World of Warcraft.

Re-work of our main snare

There was one thing, however, that I do not like at all – which is the removal of Concussive Shot which got baked into Arcane Shot, Cost: 25 Focus 65% weapon damage +3500 as Arcane damage. Now I feel that with the removal of Raptor Strike, Wing Clip & Concussive Shot, blizzard wanted to free up some of our bar space thus baking our snare into Arcane Shot. I have mixed feelings about this as we have to save 25 focus to snare people which only lasts 6 seconds, and right now in Cataclysm I use Concussive Shot a lot on focus targets such as priests to prolong them fearing or to prevent it. I feel, although this may be an attempt for blizzard to free up bar space, it is not a good thing for competitive PvP and feels like a somewhat careless and rash decision on Blizzards part. It also decreases the flexibility of the Hunter class but the positive is that it potentially frees up one global but does cost a nice chunk of focus considering its duration is only 6 seconds long (you also have to use a glyph slot to get this slow – not good!)

I hope Concussive Shot is brought back as it feels like it’s the only thing missing to make the class feel fluid and good right now in Mists of Pandaria!
